The world of Polish copper

The world of Polish copper arose in the very heart of Europe, nearly 50 years after the discovery of a unique copper-bearing deposit. From it there arose a modern enterprise, which today is a leader of the global copper market – KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. is a company with over 45-year-long tradition. It was established in 1961 under the name Kombinat Górniczo-Hutniczy Miedzi (Copper Smelting-Mining Combine), as a state enterprise. In 1991 it was transformed into a joint stock company. Since 1997 the shares of the company have been traded on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

KGHM possesses its own copper ore deposit and its own integrated production structure, comprising three mines, two copper smelters, a wire rod plant and auxiliary units supporting the core business. Our facilities employ over 18 000 people, while in the subsidiaries which comprise the KGHM Group, another 10 000 people are employed.

The modern methods we use in the extraction and processing of copper ore, along with modern organizational and management systems, provide for the environmentally-friendly production of the highest quality copper and silver and of other resources, without which the development of modern technology would be impossible. We are building the future by producing traditional sources of modernity.
